Brock Faculty in the World - El Salvador
2005, Applied Health Sciences Dean John Corlett and Professor James Mandigo have been collaborating with the Ministry of Education and Pedagogica University in El Salvador to develop a national child development strategy with Physical Education as a central contributor. Part of the curriculum development has been training teachers to become health and physical education experts.
In addition, Dr. Mandigo has been developing a partnership with community-based organizations in the British Virgin Islands and Antigua, in collaboration with a University of Toronto colleague, to bring undergraduate students to these two locations as part of a new field course at Brock, "Health and Physical Education around the World". 10 Brock students participated in this new course in Spring 2006. Professors have been successful in obtaining funding for these activities from Canadian organizations such as the International Research Development Centre and Scotiabank, and also from partner country agencies.
